BARB JUNGR AND JOHN McDANIEL –  FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY!

BARB JUNGR & JOHN McDANIEL

New Album – Float Like A Butterfly – the songs of Sting

“The hits are here but a number of the lesser-known songs suggest that Jungr has paid careful attention to all the texts, stripping each one down to the bare essentials and singing them with an insight and a rawness and emotional energy that she can truly call her own.” Musical Theatre Review

“From the somewhat menacing pulse of “Every Breath You Take” to the gently lyrical “Fields of Gold,” McDaniel is totally in tune with Jungr’s way of interpreting and communicating the meaning of a song. Whatever new and surprising direction this collaboration takes, it certainly seems to be a match made in musical heaven.” Theatrelife

“Typically fearless Barb throws herself in the deep end of a song and whether it’s in the angst of ‘King of Pain’ or a jaundiced witty take on ‘Every Little Thing (He) Does is Magic’ she makes them her own.” The American

Following the release in 2016 of their highly acclaimed album ‘Come Together -Barb Jungr and John McDaniel perform The Beatles’, this award-winning duo have collaborated again to release ‘Float Like A Butterfly -the songs of Sting’  available in online digital and streaming format from June 29, followed by a CD release on September 28.

Barb and John have chosen 17 tracks from Sting’s staggeringly hit-laden songbook, and  have  re-arranged Sting’s songs, with Jungr using her magical ability to revitalise well loved numbers by theatrically dramatising the lyrics:

“Sting’s work has no borders. He remains creative over decades, his songs leaving pop in the slipstream and diving into musical theatre, film and folk, crossing and criss crossing genres”, says Barb.

Well- known and much loved classics such as Roxanne, Don’t Stand So Close To Me, Message in a Bottle and Every Breath You Take feature on the album, together with lesser known songs such as Shape of My Heart, It’s Probably Me, and August Winds. These tremendous songs allow for bold new musical settings and arrangements.

“It’s been a joy from start to finish choosing tunes from so many beautiful and evocative favourites, his songs from his early Police days right up to now, have permeated the Zeitgeist” explains John

Across her 40-year career which has won her much acclaim in the jazz world, Barb Jungr has been internationally celebrated for combining immaculate vocal technique, impassioned performance, piercing insight and beautifully unexpected musical arrangements to reinterpret European and American popular songs in a manner, which The New York Times described as ”revelatory”. As a live performer, Barb is always funny, and often hilarious. Originally emerging from the alternative cabaret scene of the 1970s and 80s, and cutting her teeth alongside the likes of Julian Clary, Alexei Sayle and Arnold Brown, her ability to deliver shows which are utterly alive, and spontaneously respond to the world in and outside the performance space, is second to none.

John McDaniel is a Grammy and Emmy award-winning musician and arranger and continues to enjoy his collaboration with Barb, playing, singing, arranging and partnering in banter.  He has worked on ten Broadway shows as a music director, arranger and orchestrator and is also in demand as accompanist for the top tier of cabaret stars in the USA including Betty Buckley, Tyne Daly, Brooke Shields, and Patti LuPone. He was music director and bandleader on The Rosie O’Donnell Show for seven years.

Barb and John follow in the path of many other notable jazz duos; critics have likened them to luminaries Tuck & Patti and Jackie & Roy.

To support the CD’s release, Barb and John are touring first the USA and then the UK. Starting with the Cinnamon Club in Firs Bowden (October 5), Deal Astor Club (October 6), The Stables, Wavendon (October 7), Crazy Coqs, London (October 10 & 11), The Arts Centre in Hemel Hempstead (October 13) and The Electric Cinema, Guildford (October 14)

The CD’s digital launch will take place at a special show on July 4 at Pizza Express Dean Street, London and the CD will be launched at Crazy Coqs on October 10
